New to iTunes: Copyright protected question?
When I try to burn a copy of a CD that was made on iTunes on my dual deck CD recorder/player, I get a copyright protected message and cannot burn a copy of the disc. When you burn a CD on itunes, Is this copyright protected normal and is there a way around it so that I can make copies of discs on my CD deck that were burned on iTunes?

Are you using "Music CDs" or "Data CDs"??
Generally, you have to use "Music CDs" when copying in dual well machines.
Music CDs cost a little more, not much. The added cost is supposedly to pay royalties.
If you were copying the CD on your computer, you could use data CDs--but stereo equipment like your dual CD player/recorder demand "Music CD" blanks.
Get em at the usual sources like Best Buy, etc, but play close attention to the label. They look absolutely identical other than "Music" somewhere on the packaging.
There is a chance you may still be screwed because of something going on with I-Tunes--but I doubt it.
Confine your Data CDs to PC use. Use Music CDs in your dual well gizmo.
You should be able to copy the CD in your computer, regardless of whether it is a "Music" blank or a "Data" blank.

New to iTunes: Copyright protected question
Mitch, I am using nothing but Music CD's not Data CD's. The music CD I burned on iTunes plays just fine in my CD deck , my boom box, and my car CD player. I just can't make a copy in my dual CD deck without getting the copyright protected message, so it must be something going on in itunes.

Do you have any setting in the recorder to choose between a digital copy and an analog copy?
It may allow the latter, but not the former?
Have you previously made any copies of this particular CD?
Have you ever been shut down when attempting to copy any other type of CD--such as a retail music CD or a CD burned with something other than I-Tunes?
Have you seen anything on the I-Tunes site or in your recorder manual that might be relevant?
I have never burned anything with I-Tunes so I don't know what limitations they might put on you. I would be surprised if you would be completely shut down. I'd be interested in how this is resolved.

George, to get rid of the DRM (Digital Rights Management) protection on songs you've downloaded from iTunes online to your local computer, Mac or PC, make a playlist of the songs you want to use, burn a CD, then REIMPORT those songs. That should strip out DRM, and in other machines like the one you're using it shouldn't gripe. I think that should work. So after reimporting, reburn the CD and hopefully your problems are solved. Let us know!
In that process, I add a little code so I know henceforth which version of the song has been re-ripped: i.e., "Sleepwalk_NoDRM."
