Have you purposely set your Adobe Reader/Acrobat to Automatically Download and install updates?

June 2010 Security Patch Advisory for Adobe Reader & Acr

Post by Wiz Feinberg »

On Tuesday, June 29, 2010, Adobe will be releasing a critical update for its Reader and Acrobat programs. This is a critical security patch and should be applied as soon as it becomes available, on the 29th. The vulnerability is being exploited in the wild right now. I have written a Wiz's Security Blog article explaining the matter, at: June 2010 Security Patch Advisory for Adobe Reader and Acrobat.

If your Adobe Acrobat or Reader is set to Automatically download and install updates, you will receive this update on or just after the 29th of June. If you have not updated to Reader 9.3.2, your updater may not be enabled, or may be set to notify only. This is dangerous and should be reset to auto update. See my article for the details about doing this.

My Macs are set to automatically download updates for Reader and Acrobat Pro 9. (9.3.2) Seems to be the default setting, since I've never looked at it before. Thanks for the heads up.

I basically quit with Adobe. I only use Flashplayer, now.

For PDF stuff, I'm using Sumatra.

Good enough for me.

Adobe Reader 9.3.3

Post by Wiz Feinberg »

UPDATE: June 29, 2010

As scheduled, Adobe has released patched versions 9.3.3 and 8.2.3 of its pdf Acrobat and Reader. 17 vulnerabilities were fixed in this update, including one zero-day flaw that has been exploited in the wild. I applied this update to my XP SP 3 computer and it required a reboot to complete, and your computer may also require a restart, depending on the OS. Be prepared to save any work in progress and reboot after you receive this update, whether manually or automatically

I was able to update to Adobe Reader 8.2.3 by clicking on "Check for Updates..."
But now it says "No updates available" even tho I know that v 9 is available. Should I uninstall v 8 and install v 9?

Yes, without hesitation. You should not be running series 8 anymore.
