Website host rant

Post by Ken Metcalf »

OK I got my website back after paying $71.40 #*(^%!!#^*(!!
I had Just Host and they are bad !!!!!!
Switched to 1and1 and they were ok but have so so, not so hot help lines.
I transferred my domain to 1and1 and my beef is why should I get hijacked and have to pay my ex-host to get my domain ...
One or both of these company's could have told me or some thing, that I had to transfer it after I transferred it.
I learned my lesson.... I think....
Anyway my new question is I am thinking of going to Go Daddy now because they have a better (rated) help line and I use this help line a lot due to my being a bone head website operator.
Is Go Daddy a better website host for a bone head type like me???

I've worked on sites hosted by 1and1 and their support was great. Send them a trouble ticket and they'll get right back to you. I've also worked on sites hosted by GoDaddy, and their interface is so clogged up by promos, special offers, upgrades and other crap that you can hardly find your own stuff. I'd never host any of my sites on GoDaddy.

I and most of my customers use BlueHost. I was on the phone with them yesterday, to an American citizen, who spoke US English, who lives in Utah. I strongly recommend trying them out. They have a 30 day money back guarantee, but I have never needed to ask for it.

I have tried to work on sites hosted on GoDaddy servers, using their control panel, but usually give up and move on to clients hosted on cPanel websites.

I have my site hosted with Just Host. I have never had any problems with the site or their service and have no reason right now to switch. But I do have a question. If I do want to switch to a different host, do I lose my domain name. I thought when I signed up for a web hosting company, you pay them to register you for a domain name and it is yours for life unless you give it up.
Carter D10 8p/7k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup, Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112, Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open G slide and regular G tuning guitar) .

Playing for 55 years and still counting.

I fear that you are mistaken in your assumption Richard. Most of the web hosts I have dealt with will renew your annual domain registration only as long as you remain their customer. If you change hosts, most will only release the domain after you pay and go through the release process.

This is why I register my domains with Dotster. They are independent from my website hosting company. When I change hosts I update the name servers at Dotster and I am good to go in a couple of days, as the changes make their way across the routers.
