Here's a puzzle for ya

Post by Papa Joe Pollick »

My PC says drive E is a "DVD" recorder when the tray is empty but when I put a "DVD-R" in it,it says it's a "CD" drive and freezes up my PC.
I tried it in my other PC and got the same thing. So that's telling me the disc are faulty,I think..
I've used several disc from the same pack in the past with no problems.
They have been sitting a long time on a shelf near my computer.
Do they go bad after a certain time or did something cause them to go bad??
Sad thing is there are still about 70 left in the stack.
Oh,they are Memorex DVD-R...
What say you Gurus???

Any ideas of what might have caused this, please??
I have no problem with trashing and replacing them, but if I can learn what happened I can head off it happening again..Thanks!!

If you've put labels on the discs it could cause this, but you probably haven't. It's entirely likely that the drives in both PC's are bad; I have that same situation right now. It happens. The discs may have warped from heat or something while on the shelf. I'd buy a new disc and try it. Are you sure your comp uses DVD-R and not DVD+R?

:) memorex has been identified around the web as having glitchy discs, I suggest u go and get a coupla Verbatims or Ridata somewhere and try them under the same conditions, if they work then you unfortunately got some crap discs from Memorex ;-)
