Hi Kenny,
I've tried lots of them, and most do not
work anymore. I tried several others and
they wouldn't work either. When I found
this one, I was back in buisness again.

Carl:
Are you able to get this application to download and convert to an AVI file without any additional program? I check the AVI box and end up with an FLV file.
I have used other apps that automatically did the FLV to AVI conversion, but this program seems to require an additional step with a second program to do the conversion.
Any other suggestions for a one-step program known to work in Windows 7?

Hi Mitch,
When you download select the AVI or Flv.
YouTube videos are FLV files and if you'd
prefer it as AVI it will convert it after
after the FLV downloads, if you checked AVI.
If you've got a lot of files you want to
convert from FLV to AVI or MPG get PAZERA
It's a real good converter program, and free.
I use it all the time to make MPG's for DVD.
Download it here: http://www.pazera-software.com/products ... converter/

Carl:
Checking the AVI box has no effect on my PC.
I end up with an FLV file regardless.
I get this error after the download completes:

I realize I can convert after the fact, but I would like a one-step method.
Did you install any other add-ons, or just the application itself?
I will go back and look for additional settings, but as it is now, I am stuck with FLV.
Also, how often are you able to get an HD copy?

Hi Mitch, I don't use any other program other than PAZERA
when needed. YouTube don't have a lot of HD videos yet, and
I've only downloaded one of them. I have Hughes satellite
and it took 36 minutes to downlaod a 3 minute video.
Remember an HD file is 10 time bigger than a AVI or FLV file.

You could try getting ffmpeg.exe separately and putting in the location that the program wants it to be in.
http://ffmpeg.arrozcru.org/builds/
You will need something that can handle tarballs and bzip, I like 7-Zip:
http://7-zip.org
Also, it's a long shot but did you try saving to a folder without a space in the name? It looks like this thing is just passing command-line options to ffmpeg and a problem with quotation marks could case an error like the one it's showing. It'd be odd if the programmer didn't test for spaces in folder names but you never know.
But most likely the error message is accurate, it wants to put ffmpeg.exe in that folder but can't. Depending on how the program was written, if you do it yourself manually, it might stop trying.
I checked out Pazera and that one looks good too. They are all just ffmpeg frontends. You should be able to find a free one that doesn't force you to do any troubleshooting. But barring that you can always just use ffmpeg directly.

There are quite a lot of options but I think it's just for the general case.

There are quite a lot of options but I think it's just
Code: Select all
ffmpeg -i "your_file.flv" "your_file.avi"-

John:
Thanks for the pointer to ffmpeg.exe. I thought about that, but didn't know where to get it.
I downloaded the latest version and unpacked it. It has a couple of folders and 8 or 10 files total. Do you think all I would need is ffmpeg.exe and none of the other files?
I guess I would just dump it in the downloader app's root directory?

It should be just ffmpeg.exe. I don't know what ffplay does. You could just put it in there anyway but judging from the name I doubt ffmpeg relies on it to do conversions. The rest of the files all look like documentation.
The dialog box you posted said it wanted to create C:\Program Files\Youtube Downloader HD\ffmpeg.exe. The "create" thing is a little weird but my guess is that this software downloads the latest version on first use. FFmpegX does something similar for legal reasons. Anyway just try to put it in the Youtube Downloader HD folder, assuming such a folder exists. If it doesn't then that could be why Access is Denied
