Replacing folder icons with pictures

Post by Joe Delaronde »

Xp Home Edition.......all upgrades to SP2.
2 gig ram.

I wish to change a folder icon to a picture.

I right click on the folder and choose properties.
Select customize and then choose picture.
I find my picture (JPG) and select open.
The picture appears in the preview folder.
I select apply, then OK.

When returning to the chosen folder, the picture doesn’t “stick” itself to the folder.

What am I doing wrong????
Thanks in advance
Joe

Maybe the image is the wrong size for the icons?

Windoze icons are generally one of these sizes:
48 × 48 pixels
32 × 32 pixels
16 × 16 pixels

And you can do it here:

I don't think he means icons but rather the ability to use a photo for a folder thumbnail.

Open the folder and set Explorer to show hidden and system files. Delete desktop.ini and thumbs.db if they exist. Also look for any file, hidden or not, called folder.jpg, folder.bmp, etc.

Then take the photo that you want to use, put a copy in the folder and name it folder.jpg.

Note that (at least in XP) you will not see it in any of the icon views, you have to be in thumbnail view.
