I am guessing you are using AVG Free antivirus.

The standard installation of that program also installs AVG Search-Shield.

A brief bit of googling says that Search-Shield is annoying and not particularly accurate or useful.

You can get rid of it by re-installing AVG Free, choosing a custom instllation (not standard) and then unchecking AVG Search-Shield at the next screen.

Thanks very much. Yes I've been using AVG Free 8.5 for quite awhile now, & it only started doing this today, & very annoying.. Will reinstall AVG again. DO I have to go to Add/Remove programs & remove my present AVG??

I doubt if you have to formally uninstall, but it couldn't hurt to uninstall, reboot, and reinstall.
