Something happen that I cannot bring up you tube any more

Post by Bill Erb »

I noticed that I cannot bring up you tube any more. It says that I need to download Adobe Flash Player 10. It looks like it is not free any more. Is it any other way to bring up you tube? If I remember correctly real player used to bring up you tube.

Bill;
YouTube videos are created in Adobe Flash creator. You must have the current version of Adobe Flash to view them. Flash is updated every so often to fix security vulnerabilities. You can find your version of Flash by right-clicking over a Flash video.

If you are not using the current version of Adobe Flash your computer is at severe risk of exploitation by criminals who plant hostile codes looking for older versions of Flash. Please visit www.adobe.com and install the latest version of Flash, Reader and Shockwave, if you use those other programs.

Be alert to Flash scams. Criminals create fake video web pages that tell you that you must upgrade your Flash player to see the content. But, the player they offer is found on the same URL as the page is located and is actually a Trojan Horse malware threat. Only download Flash Player from Adobe.com!!!!

Also, try installing Firefox 3.5.x as your default browser. It will check your version of Flash and tell you if you need to upgrade for your safety and take you to Adobe to download it.

Flash for Internet Explorer is different than for Firefox, so anybody using multiple browsers may need to install Flash from each browser.

Bill;
Here is a link to download Adobe Flash: http://www.adobe.com/go/EN_US-H-GET-FLASH

Let me know if you are still unable to go to that page. If you can load the page in Firefox, can you click the button labeled "Agree and install now?" If so, a download notice may appear along a new band on the browser, just above the web page content. It will ask if you want to allow the file to download. Click Yes, Allow, or OK, choose a download location, or accept the default, which is your Windows Desktop.

I await your reply.

Bill;
In addition to my previous instructions, we need to learn if your PC is infected. Please list all of your installed security applications in a reply, then do the following.
  • Update all security programs on your computer, then scan for threats with each one.
  • Try to fix all problems found, rebooting if instructed.
  • If not installed yet, please download and install MalwareBytes Anti-Malware.
  • Click the Update tab and update the program and definitions, then click the Scan tab and run a quick scan. Have it try to remove all malware it finds.
  • Reboot and scan again. If the same malware returns tell me the name assigned to it.
  • The returning malware may be backed up in your System Restore files, thus gets restored after your reboot the PC. You may have to disable System Restore to cure the infection.
  • Report back on malware found and removed, or not removed yet.
If you have an installed security or anti virus program whose required subscription has expired, it is useless and gives you a false sense of security. You may as well hang a sign on your PC saying "come take me over." Either pay to renew the definitions and program updates, or uninstall it and obtain something else within your budget. I recommend Trend Micro Internet Security.

If you cannot afford to buy a subscription for commercial security products, there are a few good free versions of AVG, Avira and Avast anti-virus available for personal use.

Bill;
All I can add to this is my strong recommendation that you keep your computer's operating system, browsers and third party browser plug-ins up to date. The easiest way to do this is to run the Secunia Online Software Inspector at least once every month. It scans using Java and tells you if any critical software is outdated and vulnerable to attacks. It also notifies you about any missing Windows Updates.

The Flash player in Mozilla is a plugin and not the same as the one for Explorer. you will find in Mozilla the bar at the top is white and you go to the far right and click to allow the download and it will work fine. Until you do this forget it.
