swapping out a cd drive ques
I swapped out a cd drive for a dvd drive at school. The desktop won't recognize it. Is there something else I need to do?

You may want to check the docs & make sure it's configured properly (master device or slave device to match what the removed CD was configured as, assuming you're using the same port). Also, you may need to access your computer's setup program (CMOS) to ensure that it specifies a DVD drive for the particular port that the drive is physically attached to.
Hope this helps...

DO you just mean that there is no shortcut on the desktop, or that the desktop shortcut isn't working ?Ron Victoria wrote: The desktop won't recognize it.

Most PC's (since Win98) use the "Cable Select" device strapping method - not the old Master/Slave if this is an IDE (PATA) type drive.
If this is an IDE interface type drive, the jumper (strap) for the device type is usually placed to the left of the IDE I/O connector. Cable Select may be marked CS or CSEL on the drive.
SATA drives do not use the device type.
The BIOS must recognize the drive before Windows will see it. Check the BIOS (setup) and see if it's being recognized there.
