Searching Steel Guitar Forum ??

Post by Eldon Cangas »

I'm having real problems using the search function on this site. All I ever seem to get is the most recent posts for all the categories. I have better luck inserting "Steel Guitar Forum" after my query in Google. Any help would be appretiated. Thanks!

Eldon;
The Forum's search page offers all kinds of options which you can use to search Posts. You can select the
following criteria when searching the SGF:

Search for any terms or use query as entered
or, search for all terms entered

Forum Section

Category

"Search previous" (All, or # of days, or months or past year)

Return first (number) of characters

Try changing the search options and see if this improves the results.

That's not surprising; site-specific searches on Google are very useful. But the right way to do it is:

Code: Select all

##things to search for## site:steelguitarforum.com
The <i>site:</i> keyword limits the search to a single domain. No need for the http or www . In this case it might not make much difference, but if there were more than one site called "Steel Guitar Forum" it would.

But for the internal search, as Wiz said you can change the options to better fit what you're looking for. The defaults create a very wide search (all forums, all times) so if you know you want, say, a tab, limit the search to the tab subforum.

I usually try Google first when it comes to this forum and others. It's not as up to date but the sorting is better.
