When I call my in-laws the next town over, I immediately get a dial tone. They have normal incoming calls. It only does this when I call them. This is Verizon service. Is this eerie or what!!!

There is a problem with either Verizon or your relative's phone company, or their phone itself. Sorry I can't be more specific. Have them call you and see if they get a disconnect, or if you get a dropped call after a connect.

If you can narrow this down you should contact Verizon support and have them call their phone company to troubleshoot this. Have them try another dial phone, to eliminate the phone from the equation, or confirm it as the cause.

I didn't realize that the same thing happens when they call me. We both have no other problems calling or reeiving from any other numbers. I called Verizon today but finally gave up trying to speak to a human. I sent them an email and hopefully will get some action.

Does it still happen if you divorce your wife?

I think this problem can be easily explained by this theorem:

Due to the convergence of forces beyond his comprehension, Ron Victoria's phone calls were squirted out of the known universe, never to be seen or heard from again.
