Kevin, THIS SITE will make an mp3 from a youtube video, and put the mp3 on your computer. I've used it several times to get the Audio from youtube clips. If the video is too long it won't work. After you get the mp3 onto your desktop you can edit it with an audio program, delete the parts you don't want, etc. Have fun with it.

Doug, I can't get it to retrieve without an error message. I wonder if its because I have Windows 98.

I just tried it and I had the same problem. The site was working a couple of days ago. Maybe youtube has blocked the site somehow.
Try doing a Google search for mp3, extract, youtube. You might find some shareware on line that will do the job.

If I only want the audio, I run it in real time with 'Audacity' recording at the same time.
Just make sure that 'Audacity' is set to 'Stereo Mixer', and the recording input level is set to the minimum.

I have a free version of video piggy. This will do
it. There is a block that you have to request for it
to work. It drops down about 5 different choices.

For those who don't know about why these YouTube downloaders fail occasionally, it's because YouTube eventually detects and blocks them to protect its copyrighted content (everything posted to YouTube is automatically copyrighted). YouTube is owned by Google and they have seemingly endless resources to fend off unwanted traffic and download tools.

Zamzar

I've had good luck with Zamzar at zamzar.com. Put in the Youtube URL and they will email you the mp3 free.

No need to download software

Richard, thanks for the tip on recording youtube audio with Audacity. It works excellent, and it's easy to edit the recorded material and save it as a WAV. I use Audacity often to record my steel guitar, but I never thought of using it to record audio that's playing through the computer in real time. thanks again.
