FireFox 3.0 - Not Thrilled

Post by Chip Fossa »

I got an auto FF notice this morning to upgrade to 3.0, which I promptly did.

It works OK I guess, but I'm irked because the drop-down MENU background color, for BOOKMARKS as an example, is pure, raw, eyeball-searing WHITE.

What happened to my nice pale green background?

All other MENUes retain the green. I know this may sound trivial, but, in my case, it's far from it.

I hate white on any PC background. My eyes are bad enuff, and white is just too glaring.

When I first got a PC and figured out how to get rid of THE WHITE, I enjoyed it much better.

White is too harsh, institutional, and impersonal.

I already let FF know how I feel about this, because guess what - FF crashed on me in the course of today; and they wanted to know what I thought (with a pop-up survey flag). I told 'em.

Anyway - good luck with FF 3.0 :(

I declined loading the version today, only because I heard some not so good things about it.

The background on my bookmarks has always been white. I didn't know it could be changed, not do I want to. For me it's easier to read.

Ken - here's how ya do it, just in case.

Well, I'm running Vista - but anyway, get to Appearance Settings/Advanced Appearance - drop down menu - go to MENU. All color and font and text adjustments are there. (Start by right-clicking on open desktop) - sorry, should have put this first.

Hey, if white is for you, then who am I to argue?

Thanks Chip. I'll give it a try. Not that I may change anything, but it will be good to load up the synapsis and learn something new.

Well, how do I get back to 2.0.0.16? The "new, improved" 3.0.1 has crashed on me 4 times this morning... this is on my Mac laptop. I will NOT "upgrade" on my home PC.

Fixed... I just ran the old .dmg setup, and it replaced the new version with the older one. Whew!

Michael,

Can you explain the old .dmg setup? Do I have that somewhere on my PC? Because I'd like to go back to 2.0.0.16 myself.

But FF warns ya that certain new plug-ins and other things will not work with 2.0.0.16 now, and down the road; or may not work correctly.

Thanks,

Chipper :(

Chip,

.dmg files are OS X disk images and won't work on your PC.

I learned along time ago, that being first to try a new version of almost anything, makes you the final step of BETA testing. I tend to wait at least 90 days or more, monitor news group traffic, to make sure most are happy with the new version before jumping in and downloading it. One thing I cannot stand are those unwanted and unsolicited popup messages requesting you to click-here-to-download. Why can't they just send me email with a link?
