Can't Play You Tube Video's

Post by Fred Justice »

Need some help here, as of two days ago I can't play any You Tube videos.
When I click onto a link it will load all of the page except the video its self in the top left corner of the page.
The caption at the bottom of the page always says(1 item remaining)
Can someone tell me what has happened, or what I can do to correct the problem?
Thanks in advance. :D

Fred;
Did you recently install any kind of security program, toolbar, or add-on to your browser that might block Flash content as an option?

Have you tried visiting adobe.com and updating your Flash Player to the current version, or checked to see if Flash plays elsewhere?

Wiz, I rencently lost my Google toolbar and had to reinstall that. But I can play videos elsewhere on the computer, just won't fully load to play You Tube now. For instance, I just listened to David Hartley playing "The Wild Side Of Life" just a few days ago, but the page will load now but not the video its self.

Fred;
Please visit http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ and download & install the latest version of their Flash Player, then wait for the verify installation page to show success.

While it is possible that you already have the current version of Flash - it is not working in the browser you are using. Visiting the Adobe Flash download page will allow it to detect the type of browser you have and offer the correct Flash executable to you.

If the freshly downloaded Flash Player doesn't work your browser has done something to disable it. As I mentioned in my previous reply, a toolbar or add-on may be responsible. Check you browser's options for add-ons to ensure that Adobe Flash is not disabled in it.

In case updating the Flash player doesn't work -

The same thing happened to one of my computers today - browser is Firefox. I updated to the latest Flash player, no dice. I looked at the Firefox version, which was 1.5 - it's supposed to work with Flash Player 9.0 on WinXP. But I just went ahead and downloaded/installed Firefox 3, and everything started working again.

There are known issues with youtube pages not working with older versions of Firefox - I'm pretty sure it hasn't worked with 1.0 for a while. It appears that, as of the last few days, youtube no longer works with 1.5.

Anyway, Fred - that might be worth a check if updating your Flash player doesn't do the trick. You didn't say what browser you're using - but if it's Firefox 1.5 or earlier, that might be the problem.

Indeed, Firefox 1.x is long out of support, with version 2.x soon to be discontinued. I recommend updating to the current version (3.01) if you are browsing with Firefox.

If your browser is Internet Explorer, is it version 7.0? It should be, for security and rendering purposes. Upgrade if necessary and install all patches and browser service packs.

If your browser is Safari, be sure it is the most recent version, as previous versions are horribly insecure and exploitable, plus have all kinds of rendering issues.

If Opera, upgrade to 9.52.
