How to cure Quicktime of hijacking web page mp3 files
For Bob and others affected by Quicktime hijacking the .mp3 web page file association, I offer this solution. Goto Start > Control Panel and open the Quicktime Preferences (large blue Q icon). From there open the "File Types" tab. At the bottom click on the "Use defaults" button. Make sure that "MP3 - MPEG Layer 3" in unchecked, then click "Apply," to set your preferences, then OK, to close the Preferences.
If your browser was open close it, then open it again and try playing an mp3 file. It should open in WMP. If it doesn't, you will have to open Media Player and reset it's file associations to default settings, to reclaim .mp3 files in your browser, via Tools > Options > File Types. If the menu bar is hidden you can right click on the Media Player 11 Titlebar and the menu items will be available there.
