how to save audio taped messages from a portable recorder

Is There a way to plug in my portable tape recorder into the microphone plugin on my computer and save taking messages in a file to record to a cd or flash drive ? I have vista home supreme. Thanks.

Do a Google search for 'Audacity'.
Use the headphone output from your tape player.
