Vocal remover software for Mac?

Post by Pete Finney »

Pardon me if this has been covered here, I'm new to this section of the forum and didn't find what I needed with a search, so...

Can anybody recommend "vocal remover" software that's designed for a Mac? Free/shareware would be nice but I'd buy a reasonably priced one too. Everything I come across online seems Windows oriented and while my MacBook Pro will run PC software I prefer not to.

Or; is there a way to do this with "Garageband"? I'm a relatively new Mac user and my first look at that program didn't help, but I'm thinking it might be possible

Thanks in advance for any pointers or advice...

Has nobody here ever used software that removes a lot of vocals from CD or MP3 tracks, sometimes advertised as for making one's own karaoke tracks? It doesn't always take vocals completely out, it's some kind of "phase" thing that removes whatever is panned dead center and changes the sound of the instrumental mix as well, but I've found it really helpful when one has to learn particular parts that may not be prominent in the mix. A friend has always done it for me on his old PC that he know longer has...

No one has any experience with this, or any tips or advice?

Pete, the Amazing Slow Downer has a karaoke function. I haven't messed with that feature much so I don't know if it would meet your needs or not, but the other things this software can do are very handy indeed.

Hey Pete

Tascam makes a unit that has a vocal cancellation effect in it.
You would have to burn the track to CD and then put the CD in the Tascam player
here is a link:

P.S. say hello to Antoinette for me. I played a gig with her here in CA a few months ago and she mentioned you guys are friends.

All the Best

Thanks guys; I'm gonna try the free trial version of "slow downer"... Looks very cool and useful in any case.
