Need help: conn. for new pc
I have a new laptop (Toshiba; Sat. P-105); my desktop pc (IBM) has a "dial-up network" feature which permits me to connect the laptop by serial or parallel conn. so that I can access the files on the IBM. Has anyone done this? What kind of cable-connectors do I need? Any help will be appreciated. Hugh

Dr. Hugh;
If both computers are equipped with network jacks all you will need is a crossover network cable. These are available from most electronics and computer outlets. The look like any other network cable, with RJ45 plugs, but are wired to interconnect two computers directly. Once connected to both computers the Windows XP networking Wizards can be used to setup a LAN (local area network) between the two machines. You will need to enable File Sharing on both machines, then share some folders (and maybe a printer) and have the same "Workgroup" name on both, among other details.
This is a bit complex the first time around, and is beyond the scope of this forum to fully outline, but I have a huge amount of information on my website, about setting up computer networks.
