I have a recommendation for you. If you can rollback to the last time this new installation worked properly (via System Restore, or uninstalling stuff) and get a stable working system, if you've already installed Acronis, burn an image of that state. Then, if things go wrong you can return to that state by restoring the image from within Windows, or via the recovery CD.

Restoring an image of your OS is better than having to reinstall it afresh, as it saves you the hassles of reactivating Windows and other software licenses. Save an image of your barebones Windows installation.

Furthermore, Acronis has a feature, called Try & Decide, that you can use to try out changes and additions, then decide to keep them or discard them. It is a virtual machine environment that runs applications temporarily.

Thanks Jack, for your candidness. However, I don't feel I have a LOT of problems with W7. Mitch spent well over 3 hours assisting me with a clean installation, so I feel confident in his effort. Also, it's common knowledge that some applications may have bugs to work-out with W7.

Many Kodak printers, not just the 5000 series, have issues. Apparently Kodak has not released a complete driver/firmware package, yet, for W7.

I think I'll just wait on this one. As always, I can live without a printer.

OK,

I just spent the last half hour or so, and after reading more online reports of the Kodak issue, I did find the latest drivers and firmware. But it wasn't easy; for my printer (5100).

What I figure I did wrong to begin with, is I used the CD installer that came with the 5100. Then I tried to install the update driver on top of it; that's why it stalled out (I think). Also, I never downloaded the firmware update.

This time around, I just installed the dwnld driver and it automatically updated the firmware, too.

So...printer now works, and so does WordPad.

FWIW - the Kodak driver issue has manifested itself, not just in WP, but in other programs, too; especially IE8.
