I most certainly echo all the accolades each of you have posted, and I have many more of my own which I have expressed to Rick personally.

I most sincerely hope and encourage Rick to continue sharing his marvelous talent. I would like nothing better than to be on the front row of one of his concerts, and first in line to purchase anything he ever records.

And Reece!...You have long been and continue to be one of my musical hero's. You were one of the first steelmasters (if not THE first) that showed me early on that this instrument was indeed capable of playing the kind of music that was my first love...modern jazz. Thank goodness for the guy (whoever he was?) that played me one of your recordings the first week I had a pedal steel! After that first exposure, I always had that sound in the back of my mind as I fought with the steep learning curve. Thanks for the lift!!!

Rick, absolutly incredible. A few of us here at MSA took a break a few minutes ago and gathered in an office and listen. Now that our teeth are all back in we are scratching our heads trying to figure out how you did it. An entire album should be your next step.

Very impressive version of Pork Pie Hat! The voice leading works very well and most important, you have a great feel for jazz. Please do the music world a favour; record a jazz CD. Bravo! Bob

This is a very beautiful arrangement, thanks for sharing it. I'm glad I was able to help you with the lyric.

I'm 'shedding this tune now with a jam trio I have. Our version uses clarinet, viola da gamba, and tablas. This is such a strong tune that any new approach just reveals something new about it. God bless the late Mr. Mingus.

Wayne...I think it's the style of hat that Lester Young wore. Kinda like Porky Pig's fedora. Jazz wear of the 30's and 40's.

Where'd you put it? Alot of these chords have to do with the low F to D in conjunction with a KL that raises both E's to F. Definitely worth considering IMHO. I'll be anxiously awaiting a clip from you soon!

Rick, this playing is really YOU!As you played many times on my steel during the last tour it was this beautiful, yes haunting,style I adore. and I know you master every little note that sounds there.And I know you even don' t need to use pedals for this,what's in your head comes out of your guitar.And add then this beautiful voice, together a piece of art, Rick!! I'm giving this a bump for those who missed it the first time around... I've listened to this cut more than 100 times since Rick first posted it. It still blows me away!

Rick,
Porkpie Hat is one of my favorites, and this one beats Joni Mitchell's version for it's personal feel, and the warmth of the voice makes it. If you had an album like this, I'd buy it.

I'd really like to hear Lush Life; that would complete the deal for me.
This is the best thing I've heard on the forum. I gotta listen to it again.
