Yeah, I'm an early riser; went to bed by 10:00 but didn't sleep until 12:00 due to insomnia. Have to drive about an hour to work near Jacksonville.

Great graphic you sent. I've been wanting your email add, as it's not in your profile. There is something I've been wanting to tell you privately. May I use that add for personal messages?

You can e mail me anytime. I only hide my e
address to feel like a "Star" as most of the
well known famous players hide their e mail
so "I TOO WANT to BE A STAR" right now Im a
fallen Star Image e mail me whenever you wish.

I delivered the guitars...problem was I was 45 years too late,,,,I forgot it was supposed to have been 1962 I had a date to go to WNBC to a TV show called "Haalaballoo" I had to deliver a few guitars to that guy that was always looking for a "Hammer" Oh yeah I remember "Trini Lopez",,,, I thought I forgot something Image Time means little to me these days,,most days are the same thing.

Some days I just talk less,,,be well my friend and yes,,,,you can e mail me,,all of my friends do.

Jody. edited for a time warp problem...Im glad he never found the Hammer,,hammer in the morning, hammer in the evening and all the
day through,,I wished I had a Hammer sometimes I would "hammer this computer".
[This message was edited by Jody Carver on 14 October 2002 at 06:37 AM.]

Seriously,I guess people like their privacy
and I have to honor what ever they feel is best for them. I dont want to start a war on here, its easy to do. Many things posted are
mis-understood.

I hid my e address cause some idiot was sending me nasty and deragatory e mails. You
see only members of this Forum can post.

But anyone on the "outside" can e mail if you
show your e mail address,,thats why I hid my
address,,,,,after months and months,,I caught
the one who was guilty. Not a Forum member but someone who had a problem.

Hey Hugh, I have read Soulsville U.S.A.--a History of Stax Records, and I loved that book, a fantastic read.

I do recall seeing that picture, although I never thought I'd run across the steel player, like others more knowledgable than me have written, "you gotta love the forum."

To Jason Odd: Jason, I am glad you enjoyed Rob's book; I met him at the Univ. of Memphis when he was getting his PhD in music and I was getting an M.S. in Jazz Composition. He's a very knowledgeable dude; he is specialized in Ethnomusicology; he told me recently that the book is being considered as a basis for a movie to be produced in France. Rob is a Canadian and teaches at York Univ. in Toronto. If you send me your address, I'll send you a copy of the album I made with Johnny Bernero's band at Sun Studio in 1954; Johnny just passed about a year ago. He had become a minister about 20 years ago, and married my wife and I in 1989. Nice hearing from you again---Best, Hugh

OK, all you guys: listen up! I started this thread to make an observation about the positive change in the attitudes of steel players over the years. It was basically intended as a compliment to what I thought was a new generation of steelers. I didn't know there were other old codgers like me on the forum who would also have noticed the change. It looks like after 63 posts with a lot of great stories and remarks the thread has about played itself out, so I'll post this to close it out.

I want you steelers to know this forum has been a blessing to me. I feel that I know a lot of you personally after having swapped so many comments and tales and having found so many of you that knew some of my old friends from the good old days. I know we older guys have probably bored some of the younger ones with our reminiscing -- but, as for me, I loved every word of every post.

I'll be looking in several times a week.

Good to know all of you.

Blessings,

Roy

Jody:

I just finished listening to the good doctor's C.D. It arrived in the mail today. Your comment "WOW" is right on. Fantastic chords. He is fast with the single string stuff, but chords have always been my thing.

(I thought this thread was over; it just won't end, will it?)

This is too good to end,,if we have to,,we can put it on hold for awhile and then,,do it
all over again. Everything has an "end" except a frankfurter,,it has (2) ends Image

Keep in touch via e mail

Best to your wife and "about to be new born"
Let us know if its a boy or girl OK?

Later Grandpa,,,my best to Grandma....that Doc can really play,,amazing, and I always thought Doctors were "practicing" that Doc
dont need practice,,he's a "specialist" not a GP. Be well and in touch..

Jody,,,,Doc's nurse.

Dr. Hugh, my extreme apologies, you did ask for my address some time back, I do believe I was holding off to see whether or not I was moving, that was months ago and the house is still on the market and the auction didn't make the reserve.
I wouldn't mind so much if it was my house I guess...

I'll email with it. By the way, I did really enjoy the book and recommend it to anyone who's got a passing interest in soul or Memphis or R&b, Muscle Shoals, etc..

Made me remember how cool a lot of it was, and even better, got me looking for the stuff I didn't know. I hope I can do just as good a job.

Roy, Since I've been here about a year now, I have never failed to receive answers from the best steelers. Intermediates like myself appreciate getting instruction and advice from great players all over the world. The Forum has brought out the best in people, and I believe people like Larry Bell, Johann, who so willingly help beginners is helping to keep the steel in play. When we ask a question and get solutions from these guys, it gives us incentive to try harder to get the problem solved. Some of us are going to be steelers because of this.

Roy - I'm glad that you enjoyed my album; I believe it's a first: I've never heard of steel guitar solos with a studio orchestra. It is played on a number of University Jazz Radio Stations; I heard 2 tracks yesterday from Univ. of Mfs. WUMR (91.7). I have a strange feeling when one of my tracks comes on the air JUST AFTER Miles Davis, or Maynard Ferguson! The program director says that they get calls for repeats. I'm glad you are still playing. Best...Hugh
