Win 95 Volume control- out of control

Post by Steve Frost »

When I play wav. files, my win 95 volume control defaults to left channel only at maximum volume. Most music doesn't benefit from this setting! What's going on? Any easy fixes out there?-Steve

Double click on the speaker icon in your task bar. That will open the control for all your sounds. You can adjust the settings there for .wav and any other type of sound files.

Thanks Jim- what I'm saying though is that it defaults to this setting after each file plays, so that I have to adjust the setting every time. It's getting kind of old!

Do you have a separate setup panel for your sound card?? e.g. My Soundblaster AWE64 has it's own setup panel that I can do various adjustments. For whatever reason apparently the default for your sound card is what you describe.

Also, what program are you using to play the .wav files?? The standard windows player or some other program, such as WinAmp? Maybe that program has a setup or preferences for the audio and it is set for max volume and one channel???????

Jack- your steer proved to be correct, in that the problem seems to lie with Winamp. Playing a music file with Real Player works fine. I've deleted Winamp, and am expecting a smoother ride. Thanks!
Mike- thanks for the suggestion, but I didn't find a lock button, nor did the wav controls seem to be locked. Seems just to be a glitch between Winamp and my volume control settings. I think I'm all set now. Image -Steve
