Going to Nashville the first week of March
Hi all.
As the title says, I'm going to Nashville the first week of March. A great week to be there, as, among other things, Steve Dawson is playing with the Volcano Bros.
I'm looking for some other events to catch, if anyone has suggestions, but I'm particular, I'm wondering if Chris Scruggs still does a weekly (or any kind of) show anywhere. (He used to play a weekly brunch at Skinny Dennis, I believe.) His website (chrisscruggs.com) and FB page aren't very helpful.
Thanks
PS Probably not the right section to ask, as he is more of a pedal player, but does anyone know how to reach Asa Brosius? He's an old friend and, last i knew, lived in Nashville. Thanks

Re: Going to Nashville the first week of March
I know he plays frequently at the American Legion Post 82 on Gallatin Rd.
I don't see him listed on the site's calendar, but you might give them a call to see if he'll be playing when you are in town. (615) 228-3598
Also, you may want to check out THE NASHVILLE PALACE across the street from the Opryland Hotel. Becky Hinson is a regular in the smaller front room and her steel player is pretty awesome. I played a bunch of shows in the larger back room and I'd always go eat a burger in the front room and listen to that great band. Here's a video of the band --> https://youtu.be/JjPWA73lT2I?si=KJFwfCilZ0zss4Oj

Chris was playing at Skinny Dennis when I was down there a couple months ago. Asa is a member here and you can send him a message through the forum. I believe he's still living in Nashville.

Aloha!
I recommend checking out John England and the Western Swingers.
John's a great dude, and Tommy Hannum used to be his steel player. They'd play at Robert's Western World and the Nashville Palace.
I bought my first steel from Tommy, it was a student model Emmons.
I sat in with John a few times, back when Pappy was still around. Great group of guys!!!
Enjoy!

Re: Going to Nashville the first week of March
Thanks Joel,
I'll call Skinny Dennis and see. Maybe it just insurance isn't advertised on the calendar. I LOVE classic country,
I know Asa is a member here, but he hasn't been active for a while, according to his profile, and his online presence is next to nothing. (A real Gen X-er!) We were housemates about 17 years ago and lost touch (because I'm crappy at staying in touch).
Thanks for the tip David. I'll call post 82 and see of they have a line on him.
And thanks for the other music tips. I'll catch as much of that stuff as I can. I know that Wednesday evening will be Rudy's(?) Jazz club for some manouche, followed by new Orleans brass. And Thursday I'll be watching the Volcano Brothers.
Friday (my birthday!) isn't nailed down yet.

And look at that. Asa wrote me back via PM on the forum.

I've played a few gigs at Rudy's. Here's a video I captured on my phone at one gig where I was crammed in the corner using the piano for my music stand.Lloyd Graves wrote: 22 Feb 2026 6:59 am I know that Wednesday evening will be Rudy's(?) Jazz club for some manouche, followed by new Orleans brass.

Rudy's is a great venue.

Crud! I never checked back on the firm in time to see that. What a missed opportunity! Sorry to have missed you, Caleb.Caleb Boese wrote: 25 Feb 2026 11:19 am Hi Lloyd!

The trip has been great though. Tons of down time, filled with exercise and walking, playing steel, an in person lesson with Steve Dawson, a few great shows and catching up with Asa, who I mentioned above. I also spent, cumulative, a LOT of time at Carter Vintage and Asa's, playing a variety of acoustic and electric steels.
It's been a great trip, and I head home this afternoon.
Thanks for all the tips.

That's great Lloyd. Glad you got a chance to reconnect with Asa. Nothing beats getting to hang with an old pal.
