Couple new Dom 7th discoveries
Am I the only one that didn't know these? Quick demo on my www.marcmuller.com site (FB).
Emmons set up, half step above position 1 (in G here) there's a nice dom 7th with both knees in and A and B down. Makes for a nice blues progression or nice voice leading in a basic progression, played here too.
And yet another dom 7th found a major 3rd above position 1, B pedal down, RKL, and vertical up. Crazy! (Same voicing as half step below this with just LKL, but adds a #4 lydian note just below the triad.)

What does “both knees in” do on your guitar? And, does the vertical lower your B’s, or the G#’s?
Those are some cool licks.

LKR lowers Es. RKL lowers G# to F#. Changesca 1 chord to a 5. Vertical flats 5ths.

That’s why I couldn’t get those cool licks working! I found a way to get the G7 voicings at those frets, but it involves an unnatural act.

thanks - I've never used this before - this is a great change for resolving to 'the pedals-down chord in position 1' - perhaps it's the bias from my classical harmony background, but I like having the ability to resolve the 7 of the V7 down and the third of the V7 (the leading tone) up, and this voicing works perfectly for it. And releasing the 'E lower' raises the root to a m9, for the option of a 7b9 chord.Marc Muller wrote: 29 Jul 2025 5:42 am

Great. Yeah, nice voice leading with a simple move that I didn't know after almost 50 years playing! There's no limit to how much more I don't know!
