I love the Desert Rose Band but listening to their first three or four albums plus a Westwood One bootleg I have, I notice that the recordings sound hot or trebly or compressed to me. It’s very distracting. That may be the wrong description but I like the sound on the Tom Brumley record much better.

Tremendous! (I have to wonder what was going on at 17:00, something off stage had them looking and grinning!)Mark Eaton wrote:Thank you Skip.
Desert Rose formed in 1985. Below is a link to their performance on Austin City Limits:

Many play better than I do. Nobody has more fun.

I agree Bob! And I want to express that John Jorgenson was a big part of the vocal harmonies.
Emmons Lashley Legrande II 8+5, Lol Izzy, NV1000, NV112, Hilton VP, Lexicon MX200, Presonus Tube Pre.
Mostly play at home through the sound system, playing along with tracks. Getting spoiled with that tone!

No doubt the Desert Rose Band was a great band. But I prefer the Post-DRB that Herb, Chris, and Jay Dee did Bakersfield Bound - it's more honkytonk and classic country! Probably my favorite country album ever. And what makes it particularly cool is Harold Bullard tabbed out every song on the album and posted it here in the forum! I'd strongly suggest downloading the album, and if you are so inclined, go through the tab. It certainly has impressed me even more how great a steeler Jay Dee is!
