Steel rental for Sydney opera house shows early June

Post by Josh Yenne »

Sydney steel players!

I'm coming to play three nights at the Opera house in early June. I MAY be shipping my steel over but we may be needing to rent one.

The tour manager is looking into rentals right now but I have yet to hear even a peep, and of course pedal steel confuses EVERYONE in the industry...even seasoned pro's.

I'm figured it might be a good idea to reach out to the community here just as another avenue.

We have full backline amps of course. So just getting some potential ideas on a steel to rent.

Looking to rent directly from someone or a recommendation on a store/rental agency that would have a good steel.

My needs are not much... just need an E9 neck.. Emmons setup. A 3X4 would be fine.... Both E's lowering on the left knee would be perfect.

I prefer single coil pickup but whatever is fine.

They are doing footwork on their end but figured I'd reach out to the forum. I need the steel basically from June 9th till the night of the 13th.... of course I would need some serious assurances that we can meet up etc.... let me know your rental rate charge... I can probably get you in the show as well... We are headlining three nights.

Worth a try and thanks in advance.. feel free to private message me.

Hi Josh, I've flown mine over there twice on Qantas and had no problems. Are you concerned yours might get damaged?

no... we are just trying to keep the costs down... it has a flight case and is heavy... we dont have enough time to ship things over the inexpensive way so it would have to go air freight...

So Im just trying to figure out if renting one is even a possibility... they will send mine in a "coffin" if need be... just trying to figure out possibilities.

And I HATE HATE HATE flying with my steel... such a hassle wheeling it though the airports... and actually thats not even a possibility anymore as my steel with the flight case is in LA and Im in northern California....

Its a long convoluted story... but just trying to see if its even possible to rent a steel in Sydney... starting to look like "no" and that will be fine if need be.

Josh,

Try contacting Lucky Oceans.....he's a member here, or I bet Jim Cohen has his info.

He's in western Australia, but I imagine he might know who's who in the Aussie steel scene.

Good luck!

Will just miss you. I am relocating to Newcastle, which is 2 hours north of Sydney, in about 10 days. The E lowers are on my right knee anyway. But there are a number of players in Sydney and just may not have read this thread as yet. Good luck.
