Ripping Digital Video?

I have permission from the producer of a commercially-made DVD to take excerpts and put them on www.SteelGuitarJazz.com for your enjoyment, but I don't know how to rip the video files from the DVD. Can any of you advise me?

There can be a lot of nasty 'stuff' that comes attached to free stuff. Be careful.

Anytime you use any software, free, shareware and sometimes even retail, you need to be careful of malware trojans and other evil little packages

One should always maintain an up-to-date, constantly updated anti-malware program on one's computer and set it to scan executable files on download, saving, setup and access.

One recommends Trend Micro Internet Security, (or Pro) a.k.a. PC-cillin.

I downloaded DVD Decrypter and it appeared to work but when I went to play the file, it only had the audio, no video. Complained that it needed a codec. How do I go about locating the 'right' codec? What a PITA.

Jim, try playing what you have in VLC. I think it's videolan.org. That plays everything and you don't have to install the codecs. Or you can install a codec package...search for k-lite.

From there I think you will need an encoder to get them into a different format and possibly something to edit them down with. It depends on what you need for that site.

Are they .VOB files right now? Do you have any video editing software?
