Suddenly I cannot view any youtube videos, whether from a link or directly on the youtube website. All I get is the html coding.

Any clues anyone please?

Colin;
Verify whether you have Flash Plugin installed and that it is up-to-date. If it is installed and current, try a different browser, like Firefox (see link in my sig.).

Wiz - I'm a lifelone Netscape Navigator>>>>> Firefox user. You tube was working until a few days ago. I have downloaded flash 9 but the problem persists. How can I tell that the flash player has properly installed?

Thanks

Basil h has just put two youtube embedded links on the music page and I can see and hear those perfectly. I have checked with the adobe page and have the latest flash v9 installed. So why so I still get html coding when I try to watch a video on the youtube page?

Colin;
What version of Firefox are you running? What extensions are installed? Are they up to date? Is one of your extensions FlashBlock? Are any extensions designed to block any scripting? Have your preferences changed regarding Javascript, Java, Images, etc.

Try to view a video that is corrupted by Firefox in Internet Explorer, or Opera, to verify that the problem is with Firefox.

Uninstall and re-install Firefox, keeping your bookmarks, settings, passwords and cookies. Try upgrading to FF 2.0.

After updating Adobe Flash did you reboot?

Firefox 1.507 - I have downloaded 2.0 but not yet updated. I can watch the videos in the music section put up by basil henriques without problem but as soon as I get directly onto the youtube site I get html coding. I have the latest flash, confirmed by checking it against the adobe site, and I rebooted after installing it. I have posted the problem on the youtube problems area.

In IE I get the message that flash is not up to date, even thjough adobe says it is.

It is very frustrating.

Oh I forgot - I have no flashblock extension or anything likely to block it, and in the options javascript is set to accept.

Any member who experiences the html or script display instead of the video box, on Youtube, would you mind including a link to the page where this happened? I will take a look with three different browsers to see if it is a problem with the website, the browser, or your own computers.

Solution - something in the profile. Why I do not know because I haven't changed anything in my set up recently. But when I entered the site with my "guest" profile everything worked. Now how do I find out what the problem line is. Could be a long night.........

I don't have a YouTube profile and they all play fine for me, in two browsers.

Maybe it has something to do with your throughput (aka baudrate). Are you all on dialup, or slow DSL?

I posted this problem on the Mozilla forum and it was suggested that I start Firefox in safe mode and youtube worked as it should. BUT when I reverted to normal mode, it also worked correctly. So for anyone with Firefox, start it with this run command

"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -safe-mode

Then close it and start again normally,

Thanks Wiz for your interest.

That explains how to fix it in Firefox, but it doesn't explain what is happening to our Internet Explorer brothers who cannot view YouTube vids anymore.

Idea. Empty Temporary Internet Files and try again. For FF, Clear the Cache.

I finally got IE working on YouTube by going to Tools\Internet Options\Privacy and setting the slider to Medium instead of Medium High. Hope this helps someone else.

If YouTube insists on setting cookies on your computers, let them. The cookies are simply text files that record your preferences on the website. Set the slider to the bottom, to accept all cookies, for the Internet Zone, and no cookies at all for the Restricted Sites Zone. Then run Spybot S&D to detect unwanted advertising or tracking cookies and let it remove them.

If this is a cookies problem that explains why I had no trouble viewing any videos on youtube. I accept all cookies in my browsers. If I find any that bother me I delete them.

CooKies! Yum!

Thanks for all this information, guys!

We had Comcast high-speed internet installed in late-Spetember, and my first thought was to go to Youtube and watch videos! It was terrific - great sound on our new Dell desktop, and virtually NO waiting-time as had been the case on dial-up.

(We're using Internet Explorer, by the way.)

Then, suddenly, it was over... I can no longer watch YT videos - the page comes up, but in place of the 'screen' is a message that says words to the effect that my 'Javascript may be switched off', or that I 'need to update the flash-player...'.

Well, I've switched nothing off (I wouldn't know how!), but I went to 'Tools' and found the Javascript reference. It said that it was 'enabled', so no help there. I did the flash-player update, but still the message remains.

I'm away on a gig, but my wife has spent hours trying to solve the problem for me, but with no luck.

She called Comcast suspecting a virus, but they said - 'Unlikely - you have automatic virus protection with hi-speed'.

Whatever's gone wrong, I can't understand why something inside the computer would change without a prompt from me.....(?)

Question: Is 'Firefox' an alternative to IE? You already know how computer-illiterate I am after reading my post!

(Hi, Colin!)

Yes. I use noth Firefox and IE. I find that when something doesn't work right in one of them, it will work in the other one.

Get Firefox and ditch Internet Explorer for your daily browsing. There is a link in my signature to get Firefox.

Roger;
Have you asked Comcast support if they are in some way responsible for blocking YouTube scripts from running?

Have you installed any new security programs, or applied updates to existing ones, which might include "web content" filtering?

Are you able to view Flash content on other websites? Are you able to view streaming media on other websites?

You can verify that JavaScript is enabled by visiting my Security Alerts page. If it is not enabled you'll get a notice that it is missing and required to view the feeds and virus alerts. Note that it may take a while for the newsfeeds to load, which affects the entire page, since they are driven by an external website, using JavaScript includes.

Sorry about the Geek-talk.

Firefox does not use ActiveX at all, making it more secure than IE. Also, any bugs or vulnerabilities that are reported are usually fixed in a timely manner. You can download through the link in my signature. You will have to install the Flash plugin to view Flash content, including YouTube Flash feeds.

Roger

I support Wiz on this - I started with Netscape and continued right through to firefox. Never used IE and even just got my son to switch. It leaves IE at the start. And just to check, I fired up IE and it gave me the same message you got. Firefox is working Ok though.

Hi to you also. Did you get my email about the Red Lion Brentford?
