Windows 7 Defaults

Post by Rick Collins »

I've forgotten how to make some settings permanent.

..trying to set the speed of the mouse pointer faster.
I do click Apply & OK in the dialog box.
The new setting is then OK until I shut down and reboot __ then the movable
indicator is back to center and the mouse pointer is slow again.

What' s the secret for Windows 7?

Yes, Apply and then OK. It's no different in Win 7 than it was in other Operating Systems.

If it's reverting back after a restart it sounds like you are not shutting down correctly. Be sure to use the "Shutdown" or "Restart", don't just power off. If you just power the PC off it won't keep whatever settings were made (and you are at risk for corrupting the hard drive).

Many thanks for the reply, Jack.

Yes, I would never shut down improperly.

It would seem that Windows 7 would be just like Windows XP for this setting (mouse pointer speed).
I just cannot figure it out; and it's annoying.

I've tried this setting at least ten times and the movable indicator controling the pointer speed goes back to center each time (apparently the default setting).

Any more help greatly appreciated.

That's peculiar.

Have you tried a different mouse?

Have you tried a different mouse port?

Have you shut down, disconnected the mouse, started up, shut down, and then reconnected the mouse and restarted?

Have you run this command at an elevated command prompt:

sfc /scannow

The latter is a long shot.
