"Standard" Emmons all the way on my Mullen and my BMI. BUT! I always thought the Day split would be easier on the ankle!

Since I've learned Emmons setup, I guess I'll stick, but those "outside" rocks are tough for newer players. You gotta raise the A pedal height because your foot just doesn't want to go that way!

Serious question: How do DAY players get the same move we Emmons players get when we press the A pedal and the F knee (raising the E's)? Since I've got the E raise on LKL it's real simple to stomp on the A pedal and slam the LKL knee - move up 3 frets and have the upper inversion (then "shiver gliss" back down - oh yes!)

Best, -Dave

Dave.. Here is my answer to your question.
I raise my E's LKR which puts me using the same move your using ..just moving right instead of left.

Dave.....

I think you'll find that, with the 'Day' set-up, the 4th and 8th 'raise' and 'lower' levers are generally assumed to be reversed - provided, of course, that those changes are on the player's left knee. It's certainly what I do.

Paul.....

I, too, am interested in the physiological reasons why this is an issue at all. I can easily lift my big toe off the ground without moving my leg but, however hard I try, I simply cannot lift my little toe without my knee moving to the right! Obviously, this isn't true for the majority of you guys!

I might have come to the 'Day' set-up because my first steel was that way, but I dread to think how I'd have coped if it hadn't been.

I see Mr Seymour, apparently, plays either way - this says a lot for his athletic prowess.....

I use the Day setup for a couple of reasons. First, the "inside-lift" rocking motion is most comfortable to me. My 2nd ax (a P/P) is set up to Emmons, and after a couple of years, I still don't like it. Another reason I like the Day setup is that the "home position" is closer to the center of the guitar (my left foot is almost always on the A&B, even when I'm not using them). I don't use the C pedal nearly as much, so I like it on the outside, and like not having my legs "splayed" so much.

Day Setup! Started that way and had no reason to change. Easier for me to lift my big toe than to lift my little one. Too old to change now!

Buzz Evans has a 10 foot pedals/10 knee pedals set up in the JIMMY DAY E9th position!! Being that he named his first son after Jimmy, I don't think he will change it any time soon!!
