Struggling to hold back the tears. I met Buddy when he was here in the bay area with Jeff Newman. My oldest daughter was around 2 years old, and she had a picture taken with Jeff Holding her with Buddy next to her. He gave me an address to send it to him so he could autograph it, which he did. We never got it to Jeff to autograph. One of my most prized possessions. My daughter now has that pic.

I am truly in shock. The reason I play steel guitar is his intro and ride on The Night Life. I was blessed to visit with Buddy a number of times and he was always kind to me. Rest in Peace, Buddy.

What a sad day. Buddy has been a friend of mine and Barbara's since the mid eighties. He will truly be missed. Rest in peace "E" and "thanks" for all you have done, not only for the steel guitar world, but for the music world in general.

So glad to have met Buddy at Jeff Newman's College where Buddy played for us back in the summer of 1984. I remember him being REALLY funny in addition to his playing being out of this world.

Yes, it is a sad day but we were fortunate to have had him on the stage for so many decades to perform, entertain and teach us. Curiously enough, the past couple weeks I've been practicing from his Basic C6 course & "Swingin" courses. So, the legend will continues to live via what he's given us.

Like everyone, I am stunned by today’s news. Although anticipated, Buddy’s passing is a blow to all of us. He influenced many Forumites directly, but others like me never met the man in person and instead benefited from his pedal steel design innovations and virtuoso playing. The closest I came to meeting Buddy was standing 10 feet away from his booth at the ’94 ISGC, where I saw him play this fast & complicated descending lick where he twirled the bar 360 degrees at least once, maybe twice. I was amazed, inspired and intimidated all at once. RIP, Mr. Emmons; may you continue to inspire us all.

Hard to imagine the music world without the Big E. There is probably not one steel player who was not touched by the music that Buddy played. No doubt the Formost Steel Guitar player EVER. Buddy will be greatly missed.

As steel guitarists, we all have different opinions on different things, such as what guitar is the best, what amp is the best, what is the best method of tuning, etc... but I do believe there is one thing that we all would agree on, one hundred percent, and that is that Buddy was truly the best there ever has been on the pedal steel guitar.

We all have our heroes, and it's no secret that I've always said that Lloyd G. was the biggest influence on my playing, but there was just that something extra special that set Buddy Emmons on a higher plane than everyone else when it comes to pedal steel.

I certainly mean no disrespect to any of the other greats, including those others we've lost, but I think any one of them would say the same thing. Buddy's influence on all things steel guitar is immeasurable.

His passing leaves a void that, in my humble opinion, will never be filled.
