In the farming world some folks put a horseshoe over the barn door for good luck - it always goes with the open end facing up so the luck doesn't run out of it. Not sure how it would work with a ring...if the open end faces toward you you're fine until you raise your hand above elbow height!

I was sitting with Buddy at the bar at the Clarion and he said that the diamond setting (?) of his horseshoe ring had come off when he hit his ring on the bar and would I help him look for it?
After a little time, one of us found it.
