I don't come on here very often anymore and am saddened to hear this news.
I have a very dear friend and her name is Maggie.... Maggie was an old friend of Phred's until he decided she needed a new home at my house....tonight I'll go home and play Maggie and remember phone conversations and emails I had with my friend. Prayers for his friends and fam..... You were one in a mill Phred!
( oh Maggie is an early 40s Magnatone lyric D-8 that Phred sold me!)

Phred was one of the guys that both accepted and really helped me (and my..."coloring outside the lines approach")in my early days here, when I knew what I wanted to do but had no handle on how to get there.

I seriously would have given up and not be playing my twisted version of pedal steel today without his kindness, help and guidance.

Happy trails, old friend, 'til we meet again!

Very sorry to hear of Phred's passing. My condolences to his family and friends.

I owed him a big ole steak dinner.
A bunch of years back I thought in might move from France to Texas
and wondered what the standards I should know for a steel or bass /guitar gig there would be.

Phred very, very, VERY kindly sent me a box of CD's with over 150 classics... He was that kind of country gentleman.

I was overwhelmed to be sure. I promised to buy him the biggest steak dinner
that he could put away if I ever got over there and we met up.
Well my path changed and I still haven't gotten to Dallas for the steel show,
though I did try a few times.

I guess I will have to wait till that final round up in the sky to repay his kindness.
Rest In peace Fred Shannon.

Real happiness has no strings attached.
But pedal steels have many!
