Chip, regarding what you asked before, if you install AVG from the command-line with the switches /REMOVE_FEATURE fea_AVG_SafeSurf /REMOVE_FEATURE fea_AVG_SafeSearch
then during the install it will ask if you want to uncheck the link scanner.
In AVG 7 you used to be able to disable modules after they were installed, I think it's not as easy in AVG 8.
The good thing is, even if you've already installed, you can download another copy, run the installer with those switches, and it will modify your existing copy.

John C.,
I'm still running AVG 7.5.
What are you saying; Re-install 7.5 again, and deny LINK SCANNER?
I think I had a hard time finding a link to the 7.5 version; why, I don't know, because I already am running it - but anyway - would I have to uninstall AVG, or just dump the same version on top?
Isn't there some easier way to uncheck LINK SCANNER?
Thanks John...

Chip;
There is no link scanner in AVG 7.5. It was introduced in version 8.0.
AVG has hidden version 7.5 from public view, for downloading.

Whoops, sorry, I missed that part. 7.5 is just antivirus, 8.0 has antispyware & link scanner, the latter of which is a real nuisance.
But let's say you had 8 installed, I'm pretty sure you can just run the installer again and disable the link scanner, you don't have to uninstall first.
Oldversions.com is one place you can get AVG 7.5. However there's a nag box that pops up in 7 asking you to upgrade. Not as annoying as the link scanner, but close
