There was a Texas Tiny I knew that played at the Town Hall Party in Compton California...along with many other stars...
He was a great singer..and I think he took his 'name' from his size....he was very very 'large'...weighed well over three hundred pounds..and at about 5' 5",that made him appear even larger...
I heard he passed away in the 70's....no confirmation on this....
And Kenny Norman was a friend of mine ,and was playing with Ole at the Harmony Park Ballroon, near Anaheim, Ca.I also was told he has also gone on ...He worked with Earl Finley,Kenny Cannon, Virgil Lee,Glynn Duncan, and Joe???Rocky Stone ,and Woody Applewhite ,Teddy Wilds, and his brother Glenn ...don't remember the drummer, but when Ole had his trouble,Glenn Wilds ran the band...It was one of the greatest bands I have ever heard...

Jason I just talked to Glynn Duncan and Tiny died of over weight and heart complications. When I worked with him he weighed 640 Lbs. He died some time after Tommy Duncan died in the early 70's. Yes Kenny Norman is dead also. Larry Spears is in a rest home on life support.Just found this out. Tiny was asll over so he probably did work the Pal.Jim

Guys, my mistake, the 'Texas' Tiny I'm thinking of was the door guy at the Pal' for some time and apparently had an eyey patch.
From what another writer told me apparently the crossbow story is true. (weird way to go).
Of course if the Texas Tiny you guys mentioned worked on Town Hall Party then it's most likely that he worked at the Pal in the 1950s.
The Thomas Brothers used a very informal band set-up in the 1950s before the house bnd with Gene Davis, it was a revolving core of pickers and the singers were usually from the local TV shows and radio shows, so the THP Gang, Cliffie Stone's crowd (Speedy West, Gene O'Quin, Jimmy Bryant, Merrill Moore and Billy Strange), Eddie Cletro, Charlie Aldrich (aka Aldridge); Buddy Ray J.P. Morgan and her Brothers, etc.
Rob, don't even get me started on Ole's band, I'm a big fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and have a copy of the Bear Family set of his Capitol sides, I'm like to blow my friends minds when I play them 'Let's Go Fishin'... a personal fave of mine.
The drummer Joe Muto was with Ole's band the most, he was on all the Capitl sides.
It's alos interesting to note that besides the most known versions of the group (which Rob pretty much covered); others that played with Ole in the good and bad days towards the end included Sammy Masters, Billy Strange, Spike Doss, Laura Lee and Dickie McBride, Herman 'The Hermit' Snyder (yep, Cliffie dad was there for a brief stint in the 1940s), Terry Preston, Kenny Cannan, while right near the end Charlie Moore (drums), an incrediably young Phil Baugh, ex-Texas Playboy Jesse Ashlock on fiddle and Billy Tonnesson played with Ole before he gave up the bandleader gig entirely.
Great band.
