I gotta post one of Sez' tunes, if the OP hasn't heard it--a collaboration by him and three other hip dudes in different parts of the world. You Don't Know What Love Is
And if the OP hasn't heard Rick, here's a fave of mine with ukeleleist Adrian Demain. Green Dolphin Street
And yeah, Mike Neer. All members of the esteemable forum.

Bob Taillefer is a player that I met a good while back, and I really enjoyed his take on things.
To echo comments made above:
Emmons had some of the best jazz habits, Herby Wallace amazing, Doug Jernigan defies age - incredible, Chalker, Hal Rugg, certainly Maurice Anderson.
Sincerely,
David Spires

Well all the guys above, but here are the rest.
Search up "Dave Easley international steel" on YouTube. Gaak. All the other steelers run and hide under the bed when Dave rev's up. Mostly pedal, but there are a few 12-string non-pedals around - this is just pretty much terrifying -

Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey -
Anybody who can write a song like this: "Better Living through Competitive Spirituality" - you gotta put a gold star on their chart ->->

The JFJO, as they call themselves, have this weird thing working where every album is totally different; they're apparently doing soundtrack work now - for comic books!(?) Steely fellow, Chris Combs, with his li'l 6-string, write a lot of their stuff.

And then kindly old guy Billy Robinson. who kindly knocks the damn STUFFING out of Caravan:

and BINKBEATS?!? this just NOW randomly appeared on my screen? What the heck?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfpSn7ZYC0AW
What all this does is point out one of the groovier aspects of the beast - every one of them sound very DIFFERENT from each other, and from what has come before. Try and play a six-string in such a way as to be different? There are a half-dozen people being different in the exact same way.

Then there's resonator guitarist, Rob Ickes. I suggest checking out his 2002 album, What It Is. Rob Ickes on resonator guitar; Paul Hanson on saxophones and bassoon; John R. Burr on piano and Hammond B3 organ; Derek Jones on bass and Kenrick Freeman on drums.
In the meantime, from Rob Ickes' 1999 album, Slide City, here is the Herbie Hancock classic, "Watermelon Man":

I love to listen to all of the players mentioned. Doug Jernigan and Buck Reid from the current players in particular. Hal Rugg was no slouch when it came to playing jazz, and so too with Paul Franklin and Tommy White. Some of the players mentioned are more western swing based than jazzers, but great nevertheless. For me, Emmons, Chalker and Anderson are the top three out and out players of jazz music on steel.
Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator. Telonics TCA-500, Webb 614-E,
