When I was starting out, I'd guess these guys affected me most, and for these reasons:


Ralph Mooney.....for his "out of the box" approach
Pete Drake.......for his imagination and simplicity
Buddy Charleton..for his smoothness and creativity

Garcia and Drake when I first started. Followed by Mooney and Green, eventually overtaken by Emmons

My two influences were two fellows from around my hometown. When I first got into steel guitar I had no idea who Buddy Emmons, Lloyd Green,Hal Rugg, and Weldon Myrick were. The guys I knew about were Milt Campbell from Oelwein,Iowa and Lefty Schrage from West Union, Iowa. My first famous influence would have had to been Don Helms.
