I wasn't sure when not to play, so I laid out the whole song.

Yes it is, I first thought no but then saw the scratches on the right front of the chrome where a string ball got loose in the case.. That would have been more in the early 80s I guess...

Got pulled over by the cops last night. As he was writing the ticket, I said "I hope you can take it easy on me, I'm just a poor musician" to which he replied, "Yeah, I know, I've heard you play"

I recall Buddy being put on the spot one day. I believe he was recording with an unknown singer/songwriter who, full of enthusiasm, asked Mr Emmons what he thought of his song. Not wanting to deflate the neophyte too much, Buddy apparently replied:

"I didn't know such music was possible..."

Funny thread for sure. Here’s a couple of mine. An old head player came up to me one night and said “Son, you don’t play too good good but ya got good tone”

Just recently I was PO’d at our guitar player,a really pretty good tele player but he ALWAYS tried to play too fast and NOT pretty. After playing “For the Goodtimes” one night I’d just had it and got up and said “I didn’t know For the Good Times had that many @#$&($@ notes in it. Didn’t help but I felt better.

I was one time rated the #2 steel player in this area, of course there were only me, and 1 other guy in the survey.

Back in the late 80's or early 90's our local steel club had Buddy and Jeff Newman there teaching and playing. Jeff was getting ready to play and asked Buddy how he sounded. Buddy said you will be fine once you get in tune.

I always liked, "So, how long have you been playing, roughly?"

I have a friend who will frequently tell me (in an enthusiastic tone), "Man, that was totally adequate!" or "Wow, that didn't suck!" I think he's trying to be humorous.....

After I played a set at a Larry Self steel show, Larry took the mic and said, "Ben, that was a perfectly adequate set".
