Wagon Wheel, Boot Scootin' Boogie, Achey Breakey, Adalida. I cringe anytime I have to play any of these. Three others would be Farewell Party, Look At Us, and Together Again when we can't do them in the original keys. Together Again in A or Look At Us in C, or Farewell Party in G or C really suck.

Anything by Kenny Rogers, "It's hard to be humble", "Wasn't that a Party", and many of the above. Although I enjoyed the Rodeo Song and fondly recall knocking it out of the park on (the song) Cocaine in a bar in Orangeville many years ago.

Born To Boogie. Super Duper Love. Gimme 3 Steps. Couldn’t stand them even when they were brand new hits. Haven’t had to play these or most of the other tunes mentioned here for many years, thankfully.

That Wagon Wheel-free stage sign is hysterical!

I agree with 99.99 % of you , but we played them because we wanted to play [ steel ] music. how many steel players get to pick & choose the songs to play ?

Hey, mister, how do you pedal that thing anyway?

Too many steels, amps & other stuff, and an open mind. I have tube amp bias.

Cruise/Florida Georgia Line.

But it is making me a better steel player. Learning to "play in the holes." There aren't any.

I Like’em All.

Post by Bill L. Wilson »

I enjoy playing all of the songs that ya’ll seem to hate. Our band gets requests for all of these songs and we play’em. I even had to hook my amp back up one night after I had torn down, to play guitar on “Green River”.....The $100 tip was worth one song for our band of four.....Now I’m retired and having fun playing music, steel guitar on the country stuff, rockin’ guitar on the rock stuff. The crowd still goes nuts when you start “Sweet Home Alabama” or “Brown Eyed Girl”.....And they’re the ones that pay the bills.

They’re all better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick while digging a ditch in hard clay when it’s 15 degrees below zero and...is that a semi truck jacknifing right toward me and my ditch?

Yeah. Compared to that, I love playing The Macarena

Oofta. Too close to home. How do you think I paid for this glorified table with a fretboard and lever do-hickeys?

There are only two options as I see it.
Either I'm right, or there is a sinister conspiracy to conceal the fact that I'm right.

Having played everything from "Hava Nagila" to "Runaway", and from "Sink The Bismark" to "Thus Spake Zarathustra", along with just about every country rock, and soul song from 1955 to 1995, I can't say I really "hated" any of them. When we had requests to repeat silly songs like "Achy Breaky" several times a night, I just played them differently to avoid ennui.

I don't think it's as much that as, some (like me) Just get tired of playing the same hing over and over. I loved the song Wasted Days And wasted nights until I sang it for the thousandth time.

In all honesty though: I never played in a top 40 type band. I refused to - I couldn't do some of that stuff.

OBS and steel guitar rag. I play fiddle and steel both.
I got to where I made out like I had never heard either. After many years playing steel I was sorry I ever told any one I also played fiddle. I could not believe any one really wanted to hear either but mention fiddle and the first thing any one thought of was OBS and mention steel and I give 3 guesses what some one would request and the first two do not count. :D
