When some new incredibly wonderful lick rolls off your fingers in just the right place in a song, you can try repeatedly to replicate it without success.
Many play better than I do. Nobody has more fun.

Whoa...John Macy takes it to the next level with Gig Truths! I especially like #21, 33, 34, 36

How about:

- There's plenty of outlets...
- I'll put them on the guest list...
- my friend plays harmonica (tambourine)
- I sing in the shower...
- they just want us to play for another hour
- here's a little song I wrote...you start it!
- it's an easy load-in, just go through the kitchen...
- the band can eat first...
- and Red Voelkaert's pet peeve "you might of heard of me"

I really think the #1 should have been:

"I sound terrible, nothing at all like Buddy, Lloyd, or Paul. It must be the equipment!"

I've often wondered why, with all the other options they have for toying with us, space aliens choose to steal our harmonics.

 Spot on. I have noticed that time and time again. "Hey, man! look what I got! It's a super duper thing-a-ma-jig that will give me the sound that Don Helms got when he played with Hank!" Or maybe..."All I have to do is mash this button until program number 27 shows up on the digital display screen and I'll have John Hughey's tone when he recorded Hello Darlin' with Conway!" It ain't gonna happen. :)

Great list, Joe. :D

While I agree that we can't play in the cold, some outdoor gigs in Sonoma County are as close to heaven as I've been in this life. You take your chances booking them, and sometimes you hit the jackpot.

If you play steel in the forest and your wife doesn't hear it, is it still wrong?

And of course, somebody will request "the song they play ob the steel guitar." (Sleepwalk or SG Rag.)

Joe listed them for me!

Post by Larry McFall »

After reading them 15 I had a feeling that Joe was obviously talking about me. I have them thoughts many a times. In my 69 years and my many overseas gigs for GIs was always my most comfortable time. It seemed like I always had max confidence with my fellow soldiers. Not so much in other appearances.
Played the Steel from 1948. Have had the opportunity to play a multitude of Military venues considering I spent over 32 years with the U.S. Army. Got to play in many foreign countries which was fantastic. Married to the same woman for more than 57 years. Have children, all of them served in the military. 7 Grandchildren.
