Curtis was one the great shuffle singers in the classic tradition that includes Price – Bush – McCall – Booth – Saunders and many more. For these singers every word in the song was important and they pronounced them deliberately in a way that gave them special meaning. Curtis was the master of taking a simple word like “goodbye” or “wild” or “dreams” and infusing it with meaning that tells the story in a way we can understand. His timing is to be studied by both singers and instrumentalists.

All his music was a platform for steel players to play the steel as it was meant to be played. You can hear some of Buddy Emmons’ finest work on many of Curtis Potter’s many records.

Keep an eye on YouTube for “Wild Side of Life” from 2015 Family Reunion (not online at this time). “Wild Side of Life” shows Curtis was still coming up with it big time (to say the least) Here is “I Won’t Mentioned It Again” from the same show. "Timing is everything in show business."

Curtis left us way too soon but we’ll always have the records:

I think Curtis was probably my favorite singer for the last 30 years, and I will continue to listen to his music often. My prayers are with his family.

We will all miss Curtis' voice at the TSGA Jamboree this year. Condolences to the Potter family.

It's on YouTube again and here it is. This performance caused a stir around town after it was taped.
