John was a unique American artist, one of a kind. I remember being at a fiddlers contest in West Virginia a few years before he passed. John just showed up in his bus and entered the contest, not to win but just be with the people. He did all kind of crazy stuff so he wouldn't win then hung out all night and picked with us. One of the coolest and talented and funniest guys I ever met!Thanks for bringing his memory back up!

One of my favorite Big E solos of all time....I never had the hands or the head to play it, but my friend and fellow musician Nils Tuxen from Germany knew how much I loved it and tabbed it out for me.
God bless Buddy Emmons and Nils Tuxen...they both lay gentle on my mind.

I hear you Russ.

This was the first significant thing I ever learned on C6th, and I don't think I could have picked a better solo. It did take me about 3 months at 2-5 hours a day to really get it fluent.

The joys of being a socially awkward early 20-something with way to much time on my hands.

I met John Hartford once at the Station Inn in Nashville, and he wasn't the most friendly person to talk to, I never cared much for his music, but after that night I cared even less....

I missed this the first time around. very impressive, Mike! have you recorded yourself playing it?

Curly Chalker also covered the song on his Counterpoint album, and Phil Baugh did an instrumental version too.
