Basil - I bet EMI are quicker and more honest than BBC records who I had the misfortune to sign up with once. :\

I looked long and hard but can't see you in the picture on the cover of The Magic of Hawaii

Well Ken, I'm in the picture even if EMI Didn't keep me in the picture. That's me inside the grass shack just left of the door..

I'm going to wait 'till January and take a trip down to 27 Wrights Lane, London W8 5SW (that's here they are now located) Used to be 20 Manchester Square W1.
Of course EMI is now part of Virgin Music and Universal Records group.Maybe I should have a chat with Richard..Next time his balloon or spacecraft flies by..

How is progress on this?

Richard Branson is actually a lot more approachable than you would think. A few years ago he was on the first Virgin Airlines flight from Heathrow to San Francisco and had a welcoming party waiting for him, including the mayor. I got sprayed with champagne from the bottle he opened. I was due to fly to London on the same plane as it returned and it took off half an hour late because it took that long to clean out the aircraft after they had been partying all the way over the Atlantic. A few months later I was on the same plane when it hit a flock of geese. One of the engines caught fire and we were forced to land on two engines. I eventually arrived in London a day and a half late. I remembered talking to Branson in his Virgin Records shop which started it all back in the 50s, so I wrote a long letter to him listing all the ways Virgin Airlines had botched the event. A few days later I received a long letter dictated by him, thanking me for my observations, and giving me a free flight.

Any progress on the new album that you mentioned; the one that will have guest artists?
Or did I miss it?

(I realise that you've been very busy with Brolly in recent years, and it's been consuming most of your time, and that you have a new album coming out shortly, but I don't think that it's the one you were referring to here.)

No Alan, the one coming out soon is the CD version of the DVD I'm releasing early in the year. The CD will be available in January.
The "Special Guest Album" is still on the cards.. Just delayed somewhat by the TV shows etc..
This weekend is sad for me, I WAS to be opening the India International Guitar Festival, BUT a severed median nerve has not finished growing back yet and although the hospital have agreed responsibility and undertaken to correct what they can, it's left me unable to perform at the highest level, consequently having to cancel various "Paid" Holidays..

Sorry to hear about your hand problem. After seeing you play on the Brolly sessions recently I was hoping that it had completely healed by now; after all, it's been some time since your surgery.

On a more jovial note, if you need any volunteers for your "guest" album my kazoo is ready and waiting. ;-) :D

Great to hear about your career, Basil.
I am reminded of a story Speedy West told me about pretending that he could read music.
I believe it was at Capital Studios and at a session, the producer said "strike bar 32" (or whatever) and Speedy would get out his pencil and pretend he knew what he was doing.
One day, the producer called Speedy on it and Speedy had to fess up about not being able to read music and the producer said "just keep on doing what you are doing".
I like the "Strangers In The night" version. (wasn't that a Merle Haggard tune? :0)

It was a Frank Sinatra hit.

Just joking about Merle Haggard's Stranger's in the night.
I remember the Frank Sinatra hit. I think it was around the same time Nancy had the "These Boots Were Made..." hit
